Frustration for Martin as the Swans fail to take chances

Russell Martin could see enough positives in the performance yesterday but said after the game that his players were frustrated that they had not taken the chances they had created to see off Coventry City.

Piroe, Darling, Ntcham and others were all denied but a variety of good saves and poor finishing as the game ultimately ended goalless although it should not be forgotten that it was Andy Fisher who took the man of the match award thanks to some excellent saves of his own to protect the Swans clean sheet.

In a game that yielded 27 shots at goal of which 10 were on target it was a little surprising that it ended goalless but that was the case in front of a near sell out crowd at the Swansea.com stadium who were enjoying the Bank Holiday sun.

After wins over Bristol City and Cardiff City the Swans could easily have made it three from three to send the majority of the crowd home happy but ultimately it was not to be which added to the frustration for the players at the end of the game according to the manager.

โ€œWe created some really excellent chances, the double chance we had at the start of the second half we should score,” said Martin after the game.

โ€œThat has to go in the goal, so the lads are really frustrated we haven’t won the game which I’m pleased about because I think that is a big turnaround over these last three games.

โ€œItโ€™s seven points, two clean sheets, and three really good performances that look like us, we were very dominant with the ball today”.

Martin was though not completely oblivious to the part played by his keeper in the game particularly given the criticism that the keeper has received in recent weeks following a series of errors.

โ€œThey have two really good chances in the game, one we gifted to Hamer in the first half and then the one Godden had, and Andy Fisher makes two brilliant saves. He really stood up for us,” Martin added.

โ€œI’m really pleased for Fish today for the courage he showed and the clean sheet, that is two clean sheets in three now.”
