New Chairman releases odd tweet

New Swans Chairman Andy Coleman has taken to Twitter on a Bank Holiday Sunday to talk about speculation concerning Julian Winter and Josh Marsh.

It has been reasonably widely speculated that both men will find themselves surplus to requirements following the appointment of Coleman and the reported upcoming appointment of Paul Watson, currently at Luton Town.

The statement – released via Twitter read “Swansea City AFC believes that people mater, I believe that people matter.

“I am extremely disappointed by recent speculation in the media regarding Julian Winter and Josh Marsh.ย  ย That is just not OK and it’s simply something I cannot let stand.

“We as a club will always support our community members when wronged.”

Coleman will have much to learn if he believes that speculation regarding football clubs will not happen in the press.ย  ย Indeed, if this is his reaction on Day 3 in the job then he will have many culture shocks when it comes to the transfer window where speculation will be far and wide.

This seems an odd thing to do on a Sunday evening at the best of times but three days into a job it is just plain crazy!

Of course there could be hidden messages in this which could mean that the move for Watson has fallen through and Marsh stays or maybe Winter will be kept on for some time longer and his departure is not as imminent as has been reported?

Sorry, thats more speculation there Andy…

  1. Dreadful tweat sounds like a second rate primary school head. Gives me no confidence that he can do the job. He knows nothing about Swansea and South Wales , has no knowledge of British football and has never had a position in American โ€˜soccerโ€™ .So what are his qualifications to become chairman of Swansea city fc?

  2. Just another example of why American financiers running British football clubs and especially with us in Swansea, never works. Arrogant, very, very naive and ultimately doomed to failure.

โ€˜Shooting from the hipโ€™ before asking the questions and getting answers is very much the American business model.

After the debacle of previous Americans being parachuted in eg Mr โ€˜database analyticsโ€™ Pearlman, Mr Bob (Ted Lasso) Bradley, these owners never seem to learn from their mistakes. But even โ€˜databaseโ€™ and โ€˜bobblyโ€™ would struggle to match this thin-skinned and ill-advised tweet from Mr Coleman. Whereโ€™s his emotional intelligence – donโ€™t expose yourself like this during your first days in the job! Like any new boy or girl – head down, assess your new situation, develop your relationships, then start to exert influence. But Mr Coleman has obviously decided to come in with all guns blazing. Iโ€™m afraid it wonโ€™t convince anybody.

On a related matter – the much vaunted and apparently impending appt of Lutonโ€™s Watson. I still canโ€™t work out why he would want to take a step down to work for these owners who seem happy with mid-table ambition. He seems be developing a good reputation for himself with a slightly unfashionable if over-achieving club and again reaching the play-offs. It has never made sense that he would put his promising future in the hands of distant owners who have this unfortunate habit of drip feeding the media before crossing the iโ€™s and dotting the โ€˜tโ€™sโ€™. Owners with a consistent track record with the media – โ€˜shooting from the hipโ€™ once again and not getting it right. Maybe he will still join the club – but Colemanโ€™s premature ejaculation with his tweet suggests not.
