Martin makes the Southampton short list too?

Less than a week after it was suggested that Russell Martin could be on the wanted list of Leicester City should they be relegated reports tonight said that Southampton were also considering a move for Martin when their relegation is confirmed.

The Saints are just potentially one result away from a return to the second tier with relegation a likelihood this weekend and that means that they are allegedly on the hunt for a new manager once again.

The St Maryโ€™s side is currently managed by Ruben Selles, who wants to remain with the club next season.

Sport Republicโ€™s Rasmus Ankersen and Henrik Kraft have been chief decision-makers over the course of this season but incoming director of football Jason Wilcox will be given significant authority.

Talksport is reporting that Martin and Plymouth Argyle manager Schumacher are on a shortlist that likely includes other names.

Whether this report has any more substance than the Leicester ones is a matter for widespread debate but the link is there and you can probably understand why Southampton maybe interested.

  1. Iโ€™m absolutely astounded that Russ is so highly rated by so many people within football. They need to start listening to the planetswans experts more. Remember when everyone agreed that going to the liberty this season is boring, yet the liberty produced more goals than any other stadium in the championship. Yes Iโ€™m being sarcastic, youโ€™re absolute dregs of society, most of you anyway.

  2. players carrying a manager god worst boring play seen in 30 years of watching swans
load of clowns on here think hes brilliant!.
    Whats wrong with you?

  3. Not agreeing with your opinions does not make people clowns, Burt. The vast majority of Swans supporters can see the club being re-built from bottom to top. Russell Martin is a fine manager and is building in the right way – things take time, and he is getting there. Look at Brentford; their project took many years. They stuck to it and eventually succeeded. The Swansโ€™ style of football is a matter of taste – most people are loving what we are now seeing. Long may this project live, with Russell Martin at the helm of a financially stable club. Iโ€™ve been watching the Swans since 1957, and I can see that weโ€™re heading in the right direction.
Obviously you donโ€™t agree; thatโ€™s your prerogative.
