Manchester United, Everton and England – that experience would bode well for us?

This may not be the most popular opinion that has ever appeared on this website but the Swans could do much worse now than to turn to Wayne Rooney, someone that the majority owners know pretty well given their links to DC United.

The former England captain for me would be an ideal appointment for us at this level given his Championship experience with Derby and his clear contacts in the game that could – and should – benefit us.

Many will point to the fact that he took Derby down from this level but you have to look beyond that simple headline fact and realise that he was massively hampered by a total of twenty-one points deduction and still gave themselves a fighting chance to the very end of the season.

We should also not forget that when he took over the season before Derby were bottom of the table but achieved 31 points from a possible 54 in sole charge to steer them clear of relegation, no mean feat at any level let alone the one that we are currently playing at.

Having played and managed at DC United and is currently in their pre-season and it has been previously reported that he would be keen on a return to the English ladder should the opportunity arise.

Of course there are other factors here.ย  ย It seems almost certain that Everton will be looking for a new manager come the end of the season (again) and the name of Rooney will certainly feature very high on that list should the vacancy arise.ย  ย And of course they will not be the only Premier League club considering change this summer and again his name would be heavily linked.

The links though with Swansea are there to be seen.ย  ย Not so much with us as a club but with those that control the majority interest ever since he was unveiled back in July 2018 as a DC United player with Jason Levien and general manager Dave Kasper.

His record back in charge of DC United is the one downside that I have – they finished 28th of 28 clubs in the Eastern Conference last season and that clearly leaves a seed of doubt but for me it is the record in the Championship I may more attention to in my thought process (of course you may argue I don’t have one if we disagree)

I should make this doubly clear, at this point, that this is not a tip or any inside information just an opinion that Rooney and Swansea would be a good fit and certainly a man more than capable of pushing on from where we are and – possibly more importantly – a man who understands the working practices of the majority ownership.

We still of course have the links to the likes of Kevin Muscat and Nathan Jones and the first odds released shows Steven Schumacher as the early favourite at 3/1 followed by Steve Cotterill (whose name always appears in manager betting) at 4/1.ย  ย Jones and Muscat both sit at 12/1 in the better, Rooney lower at 14/1.

As I said for me we could do far worse and of the names linked so far this one for me is one that feels good although the biggest challenge we have is that I believe his next job in the UK will be in the Premier League but then again stranger things have happened.

Anyway it’s an opinion and you are welcome to share yours below…ย  And anyone know what Kevin Cullis is up to these days?

  1. Impossible to anticipate what our owners will do particularly if Levein and Kaplan in charge.
Everyone is so distant .The new chairman seems to have disappeared and thereโ€™s been talk of new investors .
What will be the nature of their investment and will they influence the running of the club.
We have so muvh potential at the moment but if we lose players like Puroe Grimes Wood and Ntcham thereโ€™ll be some gsps to fill and weโ€™ll need a strong board to fill them

  2. Who is the cheapest manager, will be the first consideration by these parasitic owners.
After theyโ€™ve squirrelled away a good โ€œInvestorsโ€ percentage of any assets coming their way.
They will bleed us dry until weโ€™re in Div 1.

  3. What are you talking about Everton will be hiring a new manager ? Theyโ€™ve literally just appointed Shaun dyche. Terrible journalism.

    • You can call it terrible but it’s ironic when you cannot even spell his name. And of course football management contracts are watertight and they never get sacked do they?

  4. His wages way to much
Owners will get cheap option continue to pick the meat off bones#

them bones them bones them dry ones
