Birmingham City manager is next linked

Another day and another managerial link as Birmingham City’s John Eustace is the next linked with the job, two years after he was almost appointed ahead of Russell Martin.

The link, which surfaced in the Daily Mail, comes after Eustace’s first season at Birmingham in which he guided the Blues to a 17th placed Championship finish after taking over from Lee Bowyer last summer.

The Mail article says “Eustace was tasked with getting players back onside and together as a group while working out a system that suited his young squad better.

“Amid fan protests, part of the stadium being closed, and a stop-gap training ground being required because their old one was damaged in a fire, Eustace continued to guide his squad through difficult times insisting on a ‘no excuses’ culture.

“The squad consisted of a number of teenagers but also forward players over 30 yet Eustace has maintained that a positive nature among his players and coaches is the best way to progress and helps spread the right message to the community.

“He has created a pressing system that worked, improved them defensively and been open to changing formation to solve a mid-season blip. It produced the best points tally by a Birmingham City manager since 2017.”

Eustace turned down the Swans in 2021 just before the appointment of Russell Martin for what was cited by the press as ‘personal reasons’ whilst he was also supposedly close to the job when Graham Potter left two years previous.

It would therefore not be a surprise to see Eustace in the running again although whether that is really the case or just a paper drawing an assumption based on the past remains to be seen.

    • We have just lost a manager that could have taken us on to the next level. It’s just the scumbag Yanks could not give him the support. They, The Pathetic Gathering of Money Mercenaries, have no Interest in our club. They have been found out, trying to deface a truly honest hardworking manager. How dare they, refer to him as being out to move to a bigger club.

  1. Eustace turned us down before, he won’t want to come now. I find the speculation just a familiar path that we have always had since the Americans took over. Let’s not forget there are a number of clubs looking for new managers. Swans will settle fir that failed American coach Berhalter.
