The Daily Record claimed yesterday that Rangers were in talks to sign Swansea City forward Morgan Whittaker who was a target for the Scottish club back in the January window.

The paper claims that talks are underway although it is not known if a formal bid has come in from Ibrox to purchase Whittaker.

There were three bids in January all turned down by the Swans and it is widely expected that a fourth will come during the summer and it is widely believed that Whittaker’s future will be away from the Swansea.com stadium.

After spending the first half of last season on loan at Plymouth, Whittaker was recalled in the January transfer window with a clear view from the club that they wished to cash in on their player.ย  ย However, they stood firm on the price and Whittaker remained in SA1 for the remainder of the season.

However, game time under Russell Martin was limited and that has led to the widespread belief that he will be gone this summer.ย  ย  There could, of course, be a complication with Martin’s soon to be move to Southampton but with Rangers continued interest Whittaker’s move north of the border feels almost as inevitable.

And will of course potentially put a seven figure fee in the coffers of the new manager.ย  ย What’s not to like about that.

    • I was going to make a similar point to Wyn. Even if the owners decided to give all the money to the new manager why would it be seven figures? I mean given Whittaker’s Championship record and playing record his fee will surely be based largely on a loan spell at Plymouth for half a season in a year they picked up a record points tally. And its not as if they missed him when he was gone. I struggle to see us getting more than half a million for the kid personally but happy to be proven wrong

  1. Who u kidding with the fees they have had from sale of players almost nothing has been given to the manager for new players we lost what I consider to be our best manager (Steve cooper) because the owners would not give him backing to buy new players , he got us up the championship table using loan players , so what will be given to the new manager after Martin leaves and why is he leaving , for what is now another championship club does he see what we canโ€™t.??????
