Smudger On His Way?

Lewis is on record as saying "Should we receive a substantial offer for any of our players we would have to consider it"
What could be classed as a substantial offer for Smudger? According to teamtalk that price tag is ร‚ยฃ100,000 – doesn’t seem much for a guy that made up part of the solid five that won us the third division championship two years ago.
Can we also afford to lose Smudger? He was injured back in February and has only started one game since when he aggravated his injury. Since he was injured against Brentford, the Swans have managed just three clean sheets in 23 games, picking up just 17 points along the way which gives a fair indication of how valuable he is to the team.
Fair enough to point that we have defensive cover in his position in Chris Todd, Kris O’Leary and Matthew Bound. However, Chris Todd, as much as a promising youngster he is has made a couple of mistakes and will learn from Smith if he stays whilst O’Leary has done well in that position but has also spent a lot of time injured in the past couple of seasons.
My personal view is that we cannot afford to lose Smith although it seems likely that any six figure bid will be taken by Lewis without a moment’s thought. Personally I think it is an under valuation for a player that I regard as the best central defender that we have at the club.
We know and appreciate the fact that the club is strapped for cash but we should be looking at other cost saving methods at the moment. Last weekend the team stayed over at Lincoln at the expense of a supporter whilst Mike Lewis drove the 493 mile round trip in his very thirsty Jaguar. That is not the example to set when you are looking at cost cutting Mike now is it? But it’s OK we have shut down two centres of excellence cutting of part of the footballers of the future and the chances of them treading the Vetch Field or Morfa turf.
Selling Smudger to this kind of offer is an insult to the football club and to it’s supporters. The records speak for itself and Jason Smith is a very integral part of our football club – let him leave at our peril.
If Smudger is first out of the door – who will be next. Time to deliver on those investors Mike, you have been promising long enough.
