Italian interest in Piroe reported

Sunday’s column inches have included reports around Joel Piroe who is still expected to be a departure from the Swansea.com stadium this summer.   Whilst previous reports have been around Premier League interest, this time around it is Serie A interest that has been reported.

Swansea City are expected to let Piroe leave this summer after two seasons where the forward has netted twenty plus goals for the club and this should see a sizeable return on the price that they paid for him two summers ago.

Nottingham Forest have been reported as showing interest in Piroe with Steve Cooper being at Swansea when Piroe arrived shortly before he departed the club to be replaced by Russell Martin.

Nothing firm has been received from the City Ground though by way of approaches for Piroe and, as such, his future remains uncertain although the Swans will want to finalise that future early on in the summer so that plans can be made to replace the forward who has had such a positive impact in SA1.

And today journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon account, has reported that Serie A side Salernitana are ready to bid up to £10m for Piroe.   The fee quoted is an interesting one as it is higher than many people are anticipating the Swans will receive for Piroe.

It is easy though to see that Piroe could have attracted much attention outside of the UK game.   His scoring record over the past two years has been matched by very few in the English leagues and that will be enough to have people sitting up and taking notice.   A move to Italy would give him the chance to play top flight football although with Salernitana finishing just 15th last season, it may not be the appeal of competitive top flight football that it could be?

Nixon’s record is also not overly accurate in terms of what is reported and it is widely believed that agents use his heavy following to try and drum up additional interest in their players.   My belief is still that Piroe will be a Premier League player next season but – as we say so often – time will tell.
