Rumour hits us that after the Oxford game, Richard Evans the club’s physio was told to get Jason Smith fit as soon as possible. Not a bad move you would think as Smudger is badly missed by the team. But of course, it wasn’t the good of the team that was being thought of here but the good of the possible sale to Cambridge. No offence to Jason but if he is to be sold as soon as he is fit then I hope that he remains injured until such time as we are rid of Lewis in charge of this club. |
We now really have to question whether there are investors ready to step in as has been promised by Lewis or whether they are a pipe dream. The evidence certainly suggests the latter, or certainly investors that are prepared to invest money into Swansea City now. We are told that there are people in the background but they are waiting for what is starting to look inevitable – the club going into receivership. This, of course, is when they can get the club at a much cheaper price than the รยฃ1.4 million that has been banded about. |
Where does this figure of รยฃ1.4 million come from? Well it was the figure that was banded about by Neil McClure before he jumped ship from Swansea City and left (or is that pushed?) from the 9th floor board. McClure supposedly got this figure from the value of the buildings at the Vetch plus the remainder of the lease. Is that right – reserve your own judgement – I’m sure the council value it at far less than Mr McClure did. |
No-one wants to see Swansea City in receivership, least of all me, but if it rids us of Lewis and the other excess baggage it has to be a good thing? But, if this is to happen, when will it happen. I understand that the, albeit low, gate money from the Cheltenham game added with other money covered the wages for August. But we only have two home games in September so where is the income going to come from? It would just be guessing to say when the event may occur but in all likelihood it will almost certainly be this side of Christmas barring a couple of major sales of the better players. |
The club is in desperate trouble and don’t believe otherwise. We have a crowd that is dwindling and is far less then the break even figure that is required. We have a debt on the football club of รยฃ800,000 which is not being covered from anywhere at the moment. Even the sale of the two youngsters is in stage payments and the next one is not due until January next year. |
And what happens at the beginning of October? The sale of the club to Lewis states that 9th floor can take it back if he has been unable to deliver investors. They don’t want it although the share holders will be asking questions about the football club at the company’s AGM at the end of September. |
What does all this mean for the future of the football club. Well, receivership is starting to appear almost inevitable whether Mike Lewis will admit to it or not. Without investment it will happen, I can’t see any other way. However, with people ‘waiting in the wings’ maybe it won’t be such a bad thing if they take over and get it on the cheap. And of course with receivership comes the ability to get rid of some people without having to pay them off. An added bonus? The people waiting will get the club cheap and in turn have more money to invest into the club itself. Who are these people? Only time will tell. |
The Supporter’s Trust needs to be backed and the people on the working party need to be promoting it at each and every opportunity. They have done a great deal of work to get it to where it is now and it needs to move onwards and upwards from here. |
It’s going to be an interesting few weeks at the Vetch off the pitch anyway. |
