Swansea City have been linked with a move for Vasilis Barkas the former Celtic goalkeeper as the transfer speculation increases during what looks set to be a busy window.

There are multiple reports at the moment linking the Swans with a move for former Celtic goalkeeperย who was branded a ‘flop’ during his time North of the border and is currently without a club.

Whilst the Scottish champions are yet to officially announce his release the keeper himself revealed it amongst the revelations that he cost the Parkhead club ยฃ281,000 per game.

Celtic have written off the ยฃ4.5million transfer fee they splashed out to AEK Athens three years ago and allowed the 29-year-old to rip up his contract to let him to look for another club.

He spent the season on loan at FC Utrecht and was runner-up in their Player of the Season awards.

Upon revealing his release the keeper said “I am really happy about what has happened and I also want to thank Celtic for releasing me from my contract and for what they did for me in the last few years.

“I did my best there. At the end of the day, it was ok.

“Now I have to think about next season.

“I want to thank my fellow players, I want to thank everyone in Utrecht for making me feel welcome.ย  I can now start thinking about next season. I have to make choices.”

Barkas ended up making just 24 appearances for Celtic including 16 in the league, meaning he cost the Parkhead club an eye-watering ยฃ281,250 for each league game – and Celtic won only nine of those Premiership games in which he featured.

The reports of the Swans interest surfaced according to reports in the Greek Media and it has been widely speculated that the Swans will be on a hunt for a new keeper this season which could signal the end of time here for either Andy Fisher or Steven Benda.

Whether Barkas is our target or not remains to be seen and, again, we wait and watch.

  1. This guy had numerous chances at Celtic and flopped each time- shouldnโ€™t be even associated with the Swans besides weโ€™ve got one dud in Fisher.
