The Swans are set to make a move into the loan market with the capture of Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, a player once scouted by Barcelona.

The England Under-21 international would be likely be first choice next season if the deal goes through given the potential that Brighton see in him which would mean any loan spell would surely be dependent on playing first team football.

The 22-year old keeper is yet to make an appearance for the Seagulls and over the past two season has spent time on loan at both Walsall and Lincoln as well as receiving an England Under-21 call up in the process although he has only recently (last month) made his debut at that level in a 2-0 defeat to Japan.ย  ย He was part of the England squad for the recent European Under-21 Championship, a tournament that England of course won last weekend.

He was pretty much ever present for both his loan spells – featuring in 85 league games over the two seasons as well as 7 times in other competitions in his time away from Brighton who now clearly feel that he is ready to test himself at the higher level of the Championship given his natural progression from League Two to League One in his two loan spells to date.

Reports back in 2020 also suggested that the keeper was on the radar of Spanish giants Barcelona with the Mirror reporting thatย Nou Camp scouts had travelled to watch the teen shot stopper in action for Worthing in the Isthmian Premier Division where he was on loan

It was claimed they were considering a shock ยฃ4m bid for the keeper.

Speaking on his loan spell and time with England back in April, Rushworth said at the time

โ€œI have really enjoyed my time at the club and living in the city and I think getting away with England recently shows Iโ€™ve performed well too.

โ€œI have just come back from a camp and it was good to be in a different environment where you can get new opinions and take that on board.

“That will help me push on with Lincoln to finish strong and return to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

โ€œI think there are so many memories I will take home from this loan, including the support the team have received. I know itโ€™s a clichรฉ to say theyโ€™re our twelfth man, but that is real. When we hear them backing us, even through the tough times, that is huge.

โ€œPersonally, I feel the fans have taken me under their wing and have been really good to me. I have felt as though Iโ€™m one of their own, despite only being here for the season, and that helps to boost my confidence and has been massive for me.โ€

  1. And despite yet more highly encouraging news, some of our so called fans are this evening choosing to continue to cast aspersions on our new owners.

Wake up and smell the daffodils boyos.

Plenty more $ to come no doubt.

    The next level.
