With the return to fitness of Jason Smith, Colin Addison made two changes to the starting line-up at Luton last week, with Terry Evans coming in for his Swansea debut with Gareth Phillips reverting to midfield and Ryan Casey dropping to the substitutes bench.

The football on the pitch was very poor in the first half after the initial reaction to Petty’s appearance had died down. Indeed, it was the visitors that had the best chance in the first half as Hall headed over after Swansea’s defence conceded another free header.

Michael Howard was replaced with 10 minutes of the first half remaining as he fell under a challenge and despite lengthy treatment was unable to continue, Ryan Casey coming on in his place.

Swansea seemed more content with walking the ball into the net rather than shooting and several chances were squandered this way with over playing of the ball. Nathan Tyson was booked for a late challenge after an appeal for a penalty was turned down. And it came as no surprise when the two sides went into the interval with the game scoreless.

The second half was an improvement on the first but still the best chances were falling to the visitors although it was Swansea that came the closest to scoring.

An overhead kick from Matthew Bound with twenty minutes to go bounced back off the post with the Rushden keeper beaten and Swansea were unable to get to the ball as it bounced back into the area.

Rushden though had chances of their own with Darby guilty of one miss and other chances failing to test Roger in the Swansea goal.

Petty and Shuttleworth both vanished to the safety of the directors lounge before the end of the game and were nowhere to be seen when the crowd spilled onto the pitch at the end to state their protest of the way the club is being run.

Late reports from the Vetch said that Mike Lewis was set upon by fans outside the Harry Griffiths bar, stating further the feeling of the fans. Mel Nurse has given Tony Petty the chance to resign before he decides what his next move is.
