Goodbye Joel – Piroe set for Leeds medical today

It seems like the summer long uncertainty around Joel Piroe’s future at Swansea City is coming to a close as Leeds United look set to sign the striker.

It comes days after news came out that Piroe was on the verge of agreeing a new contract at the club which would have seen him remain in SA1 until 2026.

Leeds have been following the Dutchman for considerable time whilst Southampton and Leicester were also credited with an interest for the striker whose deal was set to expire in 2024.

The fee is believed to be ยฃ12m plus add ons in what will represent a healthy profit for the club on the initial ยฃ1m they paid PSV Eindhoven for his signature in 2021.

Whilst largely playing a lone role up top whilst in South Wales, many believe that the 24 year old is more comfortable slightly behind a striker. He isn’t what you would call a traditional number nine.

But he is a consistent goalscorer whichever position he has played and will leave Swansea City with my thanks for a fantastic two years in an individual capacity. Even if the team wasn’t particularly successful.

Piroe netted 46 goals and 8 assists in 96 games for the Swans and should the deal go through in time could make his debut for the Whites this weekend against Ipswich Town.

  1. Unpopular opinion but I’m not sorry to see him go. I’m actually more excited watching Yates than I have ever been of piroe in 2 yrs.
Don’t get me wrong he’s been a model professional but definitely off the boil this season and it puts an end to letting him go for free next year. 12m seems a good return

  2. Some people are talking up Keinan Davis who has been linked with us in the past as a replacement .
Hard to see past his scoring record .7 goals in 87 games for Villa .Total stats 19 goals in143 games.Even with some appearances off the bench not great.

  3. The Good the Bad and the Greedy Yanks. Vultures out, you sell our good players for big profits, and you buy in those who are not up to the demands of the Championship. You then fill your bank accounts with proceeds of you’re trading model. YANKS OUT!!!
