Southampton make increased Wood bid

On the night when Leeds United secured the services of Joel Piroe on a four year deal there was an almost immediate report that Nathan Wood was being the subject of an increased bid from Southampton as the reality of the summer transfer window became clear.

It has always been widely expected that the Swans would see departures – and high profile ones at that – this summer and with this increased bid the chances of Nathan Wood departing have dramatically increased and it could even be that the deal for his departure could be sealed as quickly as it was for Piroe.

Both deals – assuming the second is completed – will leave the Swans needing to be active in the remaining week of the window with now it seems potentially four or five players required to take us past the transfer window.

The report from the Athletic states that “Southampton have now returned with an offer worth up to ยฃ10million, including add-ons.

“The fee is still believed to fall below Swansea’s asking price.”

Southampton are very much in the market for a centre half with exits already seen this summer for Mohammed Salisu and Duje Caleta-Car and of course it was Russell Martin who signed Wood for the Swans last summer.

A deal of ยฃ10m will be one to test the Swans resolve and much of our decision around that will be determined by the make up of that particular fee but it is relatively clear here that the two sides are getting close to a position where both are happy and this is now a deal expected to get over the line.

So the question now on the back of what looks like two sales is what the Swans will do next with many players already linked and also a wide belief that the hierarchy at the club are working on other names not yet into the public domain.

As we reported yesterday, it is not going to be a quiet week ahead.

  1. I’m done with the Swans American owner’s have ruined us. Won’t be following them again while they own the club. See ya ๐Ÿ‘‹

  2. I think the Swans can squeeze an addition ยฃ2 million on Woody! The Swans don’t need to sell immediately so hanging on a little longer would benefitical for them! If no this window, then there is always the January window with the Swans holding a possible 18 months! The beauty of the transfer window is everyone have can have a little fun in their opinions๐Ÿ˜€!!!

    Come on you Swans
