Southampton are reported as being set to make a third bid for Nathan Wood as Russell Martin tries to reunite with a player that he signed for the Swans last summer.
After the first two bids were rejected – the second being, according to Michael Duff, a rehash of the first – it is now believed that Southampton will come back with a third which can only leave us to believe that their determination to land the player will eventually be rewarded.
As reported on Saturday night, Duff was clear as to the Swans stance on Wood when he saidย “He is a good player, that’s why people want him.
“He’s our player and he has two years left on his contract. The total value of the second bid, I don’t think was any different from the first one. The sell-ons and things just got juggled around.
The reported deals in the past have suggested that the package for Wood offered by Southampton was around ยฃ10m with the belief that the Swans want a figure in the region of ยฃ12m – broadly the same fee reported as being received for Joel Piroe.
Southampton will make a third offer to sign Swansea defender Nathan Wood this week amid fears skipper Jack Stephens faces a long injury lay-off. Leeds full-back Cody Drameh is also in Russell Martinโs sights before the deadline #soton #Southampton #lufc #scfc #SwanseaCity

Southampton’s need appears to be increasing with those fears that Stephens will face a long injury lay off after the captain was forced off in their weekend game after just 25 minutes.
Speaking after the game, Martin said “It looks like a bad one. I think we need to fear the worst on that one, unfortunately. If itโs anything better than the worst Iโll be happy.
โIโm absolutely devastated for Jack if itโs as bad as we think, but we will have to wait and see.โ
That injury will only serve to intensify their need to secure Wood so a third bid will seemingly absolutely happen and with the two sides becoming very close on their valuation it seems almost certain that Nathan Wood will end this week as a Southampton player.
Which of course increases the need for us to strengthen at the back.ย ย It’s been said before but it’s going to be a busy week here in SA1.
The one thing for sure is that if we sell Wood for 10 to 12 million most of it will end up in the ownersโ pockets . Very little will be re- invested .I canโt think of a championship club who have sold as many high value players as us and put so little back into buying new talent.
Yet they still have to find new investors like Coleman and Silverstein to keep the club debt-free.
What about Southampton?
Mark, Saints invested 150 million, and yes they got most of that back. The news wire is reporting at least more signings. They are rebuilding.
And put so little back in .If we sell Wood weโll have taken in approx24 million .How much will be re-invested ?
By comparison look at Coventry this close season
ยฃ12m for Woods! Snap their hands off and let Watson source someone better for a quarter of the price ( minus the owners cut ๐ก) but make sure the replacement is a commanding centre half, because we urgently need one.
I agree about Wood.Itโs the ownersโ cut that worries me.
I’m still waiting for any of the released accounts showing this ‘owners cut’ that people are going on about. Every set of accounts up to now shows that big sales are needed to keep this club in the black and even then new money has to be put in on a regular basis. Despite that we still bring plenty of new players in every year. So has anyone got any evidence of this owners cut?
The yanks receive management fees and probably interest on loans. Canโt see any easy deal for Southampton since compensation for the management team not sorted
As I said about a week ago despite all the comings and goings and grand new regime statements here we are three days before the transfer deadline selling or trying to sell established players and scrambling for replacements.
Just accept that this is who we have become.
It even seems possible that having been told Keinsn Davis is in Swansea having a medical he may not be coming . If true that gives us about three dsys to find a replacement
