Sheffield Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz says that their club have received an apology from PGMOL to say that the Swans opener in the 3-0 win in SA1 was not a penalty.
Jamal Lowe scored from the resulting penalty kick to set the Swans on their way to a first league win of the season – Lowe’s goal was added to by second half strikes by Jerry Yates and Charlie Patino as Michael Duff experienced that winning league feeling for the first time as Swans boss.
Wednesday find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Championship table with a tally of just two points from nine games andย their Spanish manager is under huge pressure with chants for him and owner Dejphon Chansiri to leave during a humiliating televised 3-0 defeat to Sunderland.
Wednesday conceded another penalty at home to Sunderland on Friday evening as they lost 3-0 again but Munoz says the Professional Game Match Officials Limited have apologised for the penalty against Swansea.
“One of the good thing last week was that the referees called us to say they were so sorry because it was not a penalty against Swansea,” said Munoz.
“They said they were sorry about the situation.”
It seems a strange statement to make given that the replays clearly showed a pull of Josh Ginnelly’s shirt and very few suggested that it was an incorrect decision at the time.ย Certainly had VAR been available in the Championship then it is difficult to see that the decision would have been overturned at the time.
The reports come at a time when the PGMOL are under increased pressure due to some Premier League decisions made on the weekend although Munoz’ claim was before the weekend fixtures took place.
The Swans got another penalty in the win over Millwall at the weekend.
I donโt like to call him a liar butโฆโฆ the waistband of Ginnellyโs shorts/shirt was about 9 inches from his body – not dissimilar to what hsppened to Yates st Millwall .
Just maybe the manager is feeling a bit of pressure
I didnโt see the tug from my seat at the time and thought Ginnelly was overly theatrical. On replay it is obvious he was fouled.
Agree 100% Jeff. Why would the league apologise?
