Swans looking to extend Liam Cullen contract?

Liam Cullen was the match winner on the weekend as his goal in the first half secured all three points on the road at Blackburn and helped the Swans put behind them two home defeats on the bounce.

The homegrown talent hit a perfect finish as he curled the ball past the keeper from the edge of the area to give the Swans the perfect trip into the North West and set them up nicely for Sunderland at the Swansea.com Stadium next weekend.

Cullen admitted that the win was not “pretty” but his goal highlights a good run of form since he benefitted from the departure of Joel Piroe with a regular run in the team.

And with his contract set to expire at the end of the season the Swans are keen to secure him on a longer term deal to fend off any interest from other clubs who ironically have previously been both Sunderland in April and late interest last summer from Blackburn Rovers.

The discussion of the new contract though was not on the agenda of Liam Cullen as he spoke to the press after the weekend win but the delight of the forward was clear for everyone to see.

“It was really important to get a reaction like that. We felt we performed well against Leicester, but we let our standards drop in midweek, and we have responded and got the result,” he said.

“It’s our first win here in 52 years, so it is a big win for us. It may not have been as pretty as we would have wanted it to be, we were a little bit scrappy in the second half, but we dug in and three points is three points.

“A lot of the lads have mentioned how together we are as a group, and I think games like this show it.

“We get on so well, and have fun together, but we also enjoy working hard together.

“It’s a really nice feeling, as soon as the pass came into me there was only one thing in my mind. I knew I was going to take a touch inside and go for that far corner,” he added.

“Thankfully for me it went in the back of the net, it was good to good to be back on the scoresheet and I hope that can continue.”

And so do Swansea City fans everywhere hope the same and that new contract would now be more than welcome.
