Is Tottenham Hotspur coach about to become our man?

Following the news on Monday evening that the Swans had sacked Michael Duff as manager of the club it seems as if we have turned to another of the summer targets as the man that we see best equipped to take the club forward as the new manager.

The name of Chris Davies was heavily linked with the Swans back in the summer and, for a period of time, he was the clear favourite to be appointed long before anybody had firmly linked the name of Michael Duff with the job.

It was back in June that the name of Davies was first linked but he ended up deciding to join up to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham but with the Duff reign at Swansea City being a relatively short one, it is Davies that the Swans appear to be turning back to with a view to trying to lure him to take on the vacant managerial position.

He joined Spurs in the summer thanks to his wealth of experience that started with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City but also followed him to Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester City before his own departure from Leicester last season.ย  At the age of 38 years old his experience is vast and he certainly has credentials to manage a club in his own right.

He has talked before about wanting to be a manager and this very much seems like it could be the right time but it does also make you wonder whether there was more that the Swans could have done back in the summer to avoid what turned into an expensive mistake with Michael Duff.

It was suggested in more than one quarter that him moving to Spurs ahead of Swansea was down to delays in the Swans own decision making and you cannot blame anyone for needing to secure employment rather than wait for a decision to be made in the corridors of power at the Swansea.com Stadium.

It has also been suggested that whilst he recognises the opportunity at Spurs is a good one his desire to be a Number 1 has not disappeared and Swansea’s approach this time around could just be too good to turn down.

Any approach though will need to be accompanied with a compensation package that needs to be agreed and the club are not exactly in a league position to deal with another one of our long drawn out compensation and negotiation exercises that have cost us so much in the seven years since the ownership changed.ย  ย A quick decision is essential and this time around it has to be the right one.ย  ย We cannot afford to get it wrong a second time in the same season.ย  ย When that happens there is usually only one outcome on the pitch,

Manchester United coach Eric Ramsey is another who has been mentioned in links with the club whilst the likes of John Eustace who have been considered before are not believed to be on the short list this time around.

For now all roads seem to point to Davies and the Swans must make that happen if he is their number 1 choice.ย  ย And quickly.

  1. Seems unlikely having viewed Spurs response . It would be all too easy to expect the Americans to have lined up somebody before getting rid of Duff
Expect the story to run and for us to get down to our third or fourth choice before making an appointment

  2. this club should preimership players. who can’t get match practase with their present club that’s what needs like it done when it reached the premiership get the yanks to spend more monks then this club will get back Weber it belongs in the premiership and fighting to stay in championship the fans deserve it.
