Are Fulham, West Ham or Brentford about to hand the Swans a cash boost?

There was further transfer news today that suggested Morgan Whittaker could now be the subject of a three way fight between London based Premier League clubs with Fulham the latest interested in Plymouth’s top scorer.

Twelve months ago the Swans were recalling him from a loan at Plymouth with a clear aim to sell the player but a sale that never materialised despite interest from North of the border in Glasgow Rangers alongside a desire for Plymouth to take him back to Home Park.

The move to Ibrox never happened and he was sold to Argyle in the summer for a fee that was reported to be around ยฃ1m plus add-ons with those add-ones now being part of what could turn into a very shrewd piece of business for us.

Whittaker never fitted in at Swansea at any level although he was rarely given a run in the side by the managers he played under and it was no real surprise when he left in the summer and possibly less of a surprise to see that he is scoring with regularity at Plymouth – fourteen league goals and one in the FA Cup tells its own story.

It is therefore perhaps no real surprise to find that there is interest in Whittaker from the Premier League.ย  ย Frequent goalscorers, even at our level, are not the norm and Whittaker appears to be attracting the interest of three clubs at the moment with today’s reports adding Fulham to the names of West Ham and Brentford as those watching with interest whether there will be any move for the player this January.

A fee possibly as high as ยฃ10m has been rumoured to be the amount that could see the transfer happen – a fee that would make massive business for Plymouth but also potentially see a decent chunk of that coming our way as part of a sell on clause, a welcome boost to a club that is not exactly awash with cash during any window.

There have been different reports as to what the immediate future would hold for Whittaker with some even suggesting that a deal could be struck in January but he could be loaned back to Plymouth for the remainder of the season.ย  Plymouth have already made a move today to look like they are set to secure the loan signing of Alfie Devine from Tottenham to bolster their midfield – something that could pave the way for Whittaker to leave?ย  ย You can read much into most things in a transfer window and there is certainly an element of that here.

Reports have surfaced that a sell on clause could be worth 25% to the Swans, a figure that instinctively feels high but with a ยฃ10m sale would mean more than ยฃ2m coming our way, a very nice windfall at any point in time.

Swans fans will be watching this with interest from afar with many wondering “what could have been” had we given Whittaker more game time ourselves but with Joel Piroe leading the line for the last two seasons prior to this a lack of game time was always going to be a consequence for Whittaker.ย  ย But it could still prove to be profitable business for him despite that lack of game time.

Let’s see how this pans out.

Cooper only used him on occasion but in fairness we got him in the winter window and had a settled side making a sustained tilt at top 2 to top 6 at the time. Understandable at that point that his opportunities were limited.

RM and his "man management" skills are one of the two biggest culprits here with the second being the ineptitude shown by the owners to not only cut short a loan where he was playing well and getting his confidence back with a view on a sale and a quick buck but when it all backfired we had a pissed off manager, a pissed off player and the club left to pay the wages for someone that was never going to play.

If they had left well enough alone there was every chance that when they shifted RM in the summer that he might have felt it was worth knuckling down with the new boss. Instead the player rightfully wanted absolutely nothing to do with the club and told Duff that straight up in his first preseason meeting with him.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.

Can the Swans secure an agreement for second loan with Brighton?

There is little doubt that Carl Rushworth was one of the highlights of a pretty dismal season in SA1.ย  ย Clean sheets and a host of great saves were more than enough to give the on-loan goalkeeper a triple win in last week’s awards dinner but with the season is now…
