Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle are providing the competition or the Swans in what is now a formal attempt to get Romaine Mundle at the club after a first bid was turned down by Standard Liege.
Both Championship rivals were linked by Fabrizio Romano as being interested in the player but so far it is only the Swans who have made a move for the player.
The winger was only snapped up by Belgian side Standard Liege in June after he penned a four-year deal to end his association with Tottenham.
The Swans are anticipated to go back with an improved stance on their original offer โ believed to be broadly in the region of ยฃ500k โ as they look to bolster the squad.
The lack of a wide man within that squad has been evident for some time and whilst Josh Ginnelly was a summer arrival, his absence with a long term injury has been felt across the squad with any wide play severely lacking.
Speaking to the media in August, Mundle outlined that Liege’s supporters had a role in his final choice. “The supporters are incredible,” he said. “When you have the choice between several clubs, just the atmosphere at the stadium pushes you to make the decision to join Standard.
“I need a little time to adapt to the intensity of the Belgian championship, but I work on it every day and as soon as the coach calls on me, I’ll be ready to take the opportunity.”
He has featured five times though off the bench for the first team and scored two goals in four appearances for SL16.ย ย His contract with Liege runs to 2027 but there are rumours that they are having to sell in January to balance the books (Alexa show us the definition of irony).ย ย They have been placed under a transfer embargo twice recently and also sacked Carl Hoefkens as head coach.
