“Choice words and working together” – Williams on Sunderland preparations

It sounds like events on the training field this week have been very much about clearing the air for Luke Williams and his team and the Swans boss is making no apologies for some of it as he looks forward to Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.

Williams has overseen just one league win in his time as Swans boss and takes his side to the North East just three points ahead of the relegation zone and in need of a win to relieve the pressure that is slowly building on a squad that has lost five of the last six league games that they have played.

Many have pointed to playing all of the division’s top four in that run of fixtures but with those games now completed the focus will very much be on Williams and his side as to whether they can put the results together that we are told we are capable of.

It appears that the pressure on the team may have spilled over onto the training ground this week although it was clearly not something that concerned the Swans boss as he addressed the press ahead of the long trip to the North East.

โ€œItโ€™s been a really tough run of games, but I feel motivated and I have no complaints in terms of what I see from the players,โ€ said Williams.

โ€œThere are no excuses or deflecting, they are up for everything and working hard and have a good way of communicating to each other.

โ€œWe have had a few choice words between the players in training, but itโ€™s been done in a good way, being assertive about performance levels and people talking to each other.

โ€œIt shows they care and understand what they are supposed to be achieving and if someone falls below that you are entitled to tell people, but you have to do it in the right way.

โ€œItโ€™s not about settling scores, itโ€™s about working together. Thatโ€™s given me encouragement.โ€
