It was nearly four months ago now that (through Dave’s raves) I was told of the plight of our disabled fans toilet (or lack of) arrangements. There were no toilets at the vetch and wheelchair bound supporter had been forced to go to Tesco to use their toilets. Through this communication I was put in touch with Brian and offered my help in any issues regarding the disabled fans.

Well after deliberation and waiting, the management committee and Mr Don Goss (Stadium Manager) agreed that there was a need and that disabled toilets could be built at the end of the wing stand, in the First Aid room and as long as it didn’t cost the club anything, due to the lack of club funds. The time given to do this was by the week of the 18th July so the Stadium certificates could be obtained. This caused some problems, as the amount of time remaining to complete the project, was less than a month. There was nothing arranged and nobody on board to do the work or supply the materials.

We needed to move fast, a good friend of mine Alan (who is a miracle worker, who himself raises hundreds of pounds for charity) put me in touch with a builder, who after some discussion and coaxing, said he would be willing to do the work but that he was unable to supply the materials required. Again through a contact and some discussions with a plumbing merchant, he agreed to supply the plumbing materials, which left only the building materials when my miracle worker (Alan) came up with a name! His brother Malcolm who was more than willing (as a swans fan) to supply all materials required ( Alan you a star ) The builder Stewart of R & S BUILDING &PLUMBING spent his weekends at the vetch using the plumbing material supplied by Mark Lichfield of the PLUMB POINT in Llansamlet, arrived on time at the vetch, to find the work was well under way The building Material required was funded by Malcolm Jones of CTM PACKAGING in Port Talbot. Apart from Malcolm who is a avid Swans Supporter, Mark has not been to a football match in years and in fact Stewart has never been to a football match in his life, these are the type of people who have come to the Aid of the Trust, and we THANK THEM .

After all the building work was completed Debbie Brian’s wife and trust Administration officer come in and sorted out the cleaning and painting, and the place looks wonderful. The Disabled Toilets were opened on the night of the Crystal Palace game by trust president Mr Alan Curtis. The Evening post (even though they were asked) in its infinite wisdom couldn’t even bother to show up, at what was to our disabled supporters a big night as the first permanent disabled Toilets were opened. Now there are a few simple jobs left to do, a few electrics and a curtain to give privacy to patients who are to be treated by first aid staff. The Supporters Trust have now handed the Toilets over to the club. I now hope all Disabled Supporter Who have stayed away because of a lack of the basic amenities will return to take their place amongst the supporters of Swansea’s city where they belong, and that those who knock the trust, realise that together we can achieve whatever we set as our goals! Who would have believed that a simple comment (regarding disabled toilets) sent to Dave’s raves could have produced such results. Once again I would like to say to:

Stewart of R&S Building & plumbing

Mark of Plumb Point

And Malcolm of CTM Packaging

On behalf of the very grateful Disabled fans THANK YOU
