Delighted Williams praises the Swans performance of many guises

Swansea manager Luke Williams was predictably a happy man after his Swansea side battled through the game to secure a 1-0 win and record a second league win of the season.

A fourth minute own goal proved to be the crucial moment in the game but Williams saw much to take away as a positive from the game as his side put in a strong team performance to ensure the result was a positive as we all wanted it to be.

โ€œThat was a huge effort against a really tough opposition, so I am pleased with that,โ€ said the Swans boss.

โ€œI also thought in the first half in particular we played some very good football and controlled the majority of the game.

โ€œSo there is a lot to be happy about, the big challenge for the group after the last game was to have that energy and intensity from the start.

โ€œWe were really aggressive with and without the ball, and I think we just about deserved the victory even though they put a lot of pressure on us towards the end of the game.

โ€œThey are a really good side, and that was a big win and a big performance from us.โ€

There is little that can be argued with when you reflect on what Williams has said – the Swans did battle hard to win the ball back when they had the ball and their midfield in particular excelled at that part with a high intensity performance.

โ€œWhen you look at the core of the team, and we almost take the skipper for granted because he is so consistently good, Ollie Cooper and Liam Cullen really led from the front with so much energy and creativity.

โ€œThen Franco was really bright for us going forward, he made some big tackles and recovery runs for us, and he is a bit of an action man really. It was a really good performance.โ€

Williams also had a word for Ben Cabango who made a contender for tackle of the season late on to ensure that the Swans goal remained intactย โ€œThat is as good as a goal, I mean what a tackle,โ€ said the Swans boss.

โ€œHe and Harry Darling headed so many balls out the box, and the full-backs dealt with a lot of challenging one v one situations and I love to see that side of the team.

โ€œI would prefer to see us really in control, but it is great to see that when we come under pressure we can withstand that.”

It was great to win and there was clearly much more aggression and desire about us yesterday. But I disagree it was a complete performance. On another day we might have conceded 3 or 4 goals, a better side than Norwich would surely have punished us.

It was a very similar pattern to the Cardiff game - we sat back and tried to hold what we had in the last 30 mins. The only difference was we got away with it yesterday.

I'd like to see us control games more. Try and end games on the front foot, not hanging on for dear life. I'm sure Williams knows this, which is why it's odd to label performances such as this "complete". It wasn't.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
