Swans youngsters Azeem Abdulai is close to joining Leyton Orient according to Wales Online journalist Tom Coleman this evening on social media platform X.
The 22 year old Scot is set to join the League One club for an undisclosed fee after making 20 appearances for the club in all competitions this season, scoring twice.
The midfielder has suffered a frustrating time in SA1 this season with many initially expexting this to be his breakout campaign in the middle of the park and was left out of the matchday squad for yesterday’s humiliation at Cardiff.
Recognised as a defensive midfielder, Abdulai has barely played in his preferred position with Matt Grimes, Goncalo Franco and Joe Allen preferred.
But Luke Williams has been reluctant to deploy him in central midfield with Abdulai mostly used as a substitute on the wing – a position that he was clearly not suited to.
The move will come as somewhat of a surprise with Abdulai often preferred to other talents such as Kyrell Wilson who has also come through the academy system but yet to taste first team football.
The potential move to 8th placed Orient – who are three points off the top six with a game in hand on some of those above – would see Abdulai link up with former Swan Darren Pratley.
Oh for a Darren Pratley today. One would hope we’ve had the sense to insert a sell-on fee or buy back clause.
