Flynn Unhappy

Over the incident which saw Kevin Nugent have a goal disallowed for a push by James Thomas, Flynn said ” There was a key incident when we had a second goal disallowed. I’ve seen it on the monitor and it was a perfectly good goal.

The lineman is probably 45 yards away, the referee’s not 15 but he’s not given it, the linesman has. John was wide and he’s got a cross in. It wasn’t the best of crosses but James has made a run to the near post, like all good strikers.

Knowing he can’t get a shot in he’s let the ball go past him, the player has fallen on the floor and Kevin has finished it well. I can’t see a foul there myself.” Opposite number Brian Talbot was in agreement saying “I actually think that we were a little fortunate that they didn’t go two goals in front. I thought there second goal was a good goal, I don’t know why it was disallowed.”

Flynn was happy with the point but also a little concerned over his side sitting back during the second half leading to increased Rushden pressure.

“They put us under pressure in the second half and I thought that we defended a little bit too deep. That was how they got their goal really, they made a break down the right hand side, we held them up, but we stayed inside the penalty area when we should have pushed out.”

And he was optimistic going into the game against Darlington on Tuesday night with his side having picked up four points from the last six possible. “We have to start somewhere, and we’ve now got a run. We are two league games undefeated and we’ve got a home game on Tuesday and we have to kick on from here. The way we performed today and last week, we have some confidence going into the game. The support has been fantastic all the way through but we hope there’ll be another big crowd there Tuesday to urge us on to another victory.”

With a home game against Darlington and an away game against Macclesfield who have won just once in their last eight previous games, this is a big week for Swansea and I am sure that most will settle for another 4 points out of the 6 as we look to preserve football league status?

The club directors have again reduced admission for the game to the same levels of Lincoln and they will be hopeful that the fans respond in the same way and turn up in their numbers. There is increased optimism in sections that we can dig ourselves out of trouble – the next seven days are crucial to that goal.
