For Boston you could easily read Wrexham as the Swans produced a display all to similar to the last home game – plenty of possession, plenty of promise but missing the final ball that would create the goalscoring chance. |
In fairness, we had chances tonight but none were converted. Some were down to good goalkeeping or defending, others down to our own ability to want to shoot when the chance was presented. |
With an unchanged side maybe the writing should have been on the wall that we were not to score and in the first half it was probably Boston that had the best of the chances – Neil Cutler being forced into good saves on more than one occasion. Swansea’s best chances fell to John Williams who had clearly left his professional boots at home – preferring to wear the boots of the clown variety for the occasion. One free header skidded (just) out for a goal kick and one golden chance to shoot saw him elect to look for the non existent man with him instead. A half-time score of nil-nil was more than fair for the standard of the football. |
The second half saw the Swans respond with more urgency helped by two red cards from the referee. In fairness, they were red cards that you could see coming in the first half – the referee was not backwards in showing cards and Boston were physical. The first after 68 minutes saw Bennett walk for a second foul on Martinez – a challenge that incensed those around him – Douglas followed after 81 minutes for a late tackle on Jenkins. |
Swansea were creating chances of sorts with Williams and Britton both testing the keeper but with no real danger to the Boston goal and Nugent came closest with five minutes to go when his header was tipped over the bar. Hylton had a cross come shot saved on the line and the Swans did hit the bar – more because the keeper failed to push the ball over it rather than a close opportunity. |
Picking out performances again tonight you would single Britton as someone who never stopped running. Martinez again similar but all too often his pass would find a Boston player and Tate and Smith were as solid as ever at the back. To me Nugent and Richards is not working up front and as for Williams tonight – I stop short of saying anything as it wouldn’t be pleasant to read. |
We have dropped four points at home in four days. I would have settled for four points in total. It means we are probably slightly behind what we need and Torquay on Saturday starts to look like a game we need to take something out of. |
Another disappointing display and another blank will cause a few concerns for Brian Flynn. |
