Swansea City have sacked Alan Sheehan as head coach as per a report from Stuart James at the Athletic.  The move brings to an end a short spell as permanent manager of the side and with the team in 18th place in the Championship.

The final straw it seems was Saturday’s humiliating 4-1 defeat at home to Ipswich although early reports yesterday suggested that there was to be a stay of execution but the news broke this morning with Stu reporting via the Athletic that

“Swansea City have sacked head coach Alan Sheehan in the wake of Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town.”

Sheehan was given the head coach role on a permanent basis after a caretaker spell at the end of last season where his side picked up a good run of form but this season has been more of a struggle and the team’s four wins have all come against sides in the bottom six of the division.

With a heavy investment in the playing side over the summer it appears clear that the owners were looking for more and the relative short tenure of Sheehan has come to an end with the next stage (at the time of writing) unclear but, as discussed on these pages, there were difficult questions to answer and it has become clear that the answers given were not acceptable to the ownership group.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running this website (in all its current and previous guises) since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.

I suspect that Brendan has had enough of returning to an old haunt.

Non starter anyway.

He's probably looking to earn a fortune in Saudi or somewhere now.

Inevitable after recent performances, no manager was going to survive recent results.

Genuine shame, nice guy but don’t they always come last.
