Exeter City’s problems took on a new twist when six directors walked out on the Grecians in response to a confidential report into the club’s internal affairs by the FA’s Financial Advisory Unit. With the club currently rock-bottom of the third division table and favourites to make the drop to the Nationwide Conference, the future looks extremely bleak for the Devon outfit. However, club president Ivor Doble has signalled his support for joint owners John Russell and Mike Lewis although he has admitted to being saddened by the latest crisis. "I was sad when they all told me," Doble told the Exeter Express & Echo. "But I just hope John and Mike can keep it going because they are in terrible trouble. "The finances are not there. I did it for 20-odd years and we just about struggled through but you can’t go on forever – it’s a tough job. "I had some fantastic friends that helped me get the money we needed but, after 20 years, if you approached them they would turn round and walk away. "They need something like ร‚ยฃ70,000 just to keep going for a couple of weeks with all the salaries and other costs. "In the 20 years I was there we had some terrible times getting money and it needs to be done by private people and investors."
