The prayers of Exeter City supporters were answered today when Mike Lewis was arrested by the Fraud Squad.

Lewis was arrested at a private address in the heart of Exeter earlier today, whilst his co-chairman, John Russell, and Russell’s wife, Gillian, were detained at St James’s Park.

The arrests were the result of Operation Roe, an in-depth investigation into the running of the Devon club.

Police also raided a private address in Kingsbridge, Loughor. A Swansea police spokesman said: “We did assist in the execution of a warrant with Devon and Cornwall Police at an address in Loughor today.”

This morning’s dramatic events have put a whole new emphasis on this evening’s testimonial match for former Swans skipper John Cornforth. Mass demonstrations against the current regime were planned for the match, with Cornforth promising to donate some of the proceeds to Exeter’s burgeoning Supporter’s Trust. Now, however, it’s set to be the stage for a massive celebration party.

I knew something was brewing last evening when my contact at Exeter emailed me, suggesting I put the champagne on ice. To protect the integrity of this morning’s raids he did not elaborate, however it was clear that the battle against Russell and Lewis was about to take a significant turn for the better.

Whilst celebrating today’s developments, my contact has sent a message of caution to members of the Jack Army, asking for a toning down of postings on all web-sites. So, for the time being at least, it is very much a case of: “Mr Lewis was a total incompetent and made a hash of running our football club,” rather than: “Liability Lewis is a poor man’s Ronnie Biggs!”

Let us all hope that today’s developments are the beginning of the end for Mike Lewis. This man should never have been allowed into another football club after he left Swansea City – his actions so nearly killed the club for good. If anyone out there has hard, irrefutable evidence then please contact the Devon and Cornwall Police and help them build a water-tight case.

I hope for your sake, Mike, that you told the truth during that Talksport Radio interviewรขโ‚ฌยฆI guess we’ll soon find out if you are an “unblemished character” that’s “cleaner than clean”. And if you are not? You’d better hope that your cellmate isn’t an Exeter City fan!
