‘We’ll Match Any Offer’

Less than 24 hours after saying via the official site that "Discussions were very positive" we hear a whisper that Flynn is so desperate to sign the player that he had pledged to match any offer that he receives from Bristol Rovers or Bradford City – the other two clubs competing for his signature.
It’s an interesting statement and certainly a positive one but I would doubt whether we are in a position to match ‘any’ offers and I would also urge Mr Flynn not to start paying silly money to secure the services of just one player. This has been done before and the club is still recovering from that.
Swans striker James Thomas was also asked by Flynn to sell the benefits of Swansea to Llewellyn with the two of them having played Junior football together in the city. Llewellyn based himself at his parents home in Swansea for his loan spell at Bristol Rovers last season and has been quoted as saying "Coming back to Swansea appeals to me because it is my home"
As mentioned above, I struggle to believe that we could match any offer but would hope that we can put together a decent enough deal to be able to offer Llewellyn a package that could entice him to the Vetch. However, with a restricted budget (rumoured to be higher than the ร‚ยฃ650k previously discussed) we cannot break the bank on one player – Swans fans asking themselves the question why should just remember Colin Irwin back in 1981/82.
Flynn continues to make all the right noises and as time progresses the expectation on him to deliver will increase within the ranks of the fans. There is talk in sections of a promotion season next year and the likes of Llewellyn will only increase that talk. No-one is in any doubt that the squad needs to be a vast improvement on last season or the position will be similar and in cases like this the phrase ‘actions speak louder than words’ spring to mind.
Time will tell but bold statements coming from within make interesting reading.
