Water bill

There is an online calculator that gives a pretty good estimate of your usage
I've just had a quick look on usage, it takes about 400 odd litres to wash a car, I've got two, and I do like washing them.
I'll have a look at the calculators later onđź‘Ť

I have just checked rates and so on with a water meter, because I was panicking slightly If I were to change to a water meter.

And quite surprisingly according to google having a bath {full to the top} every day for a month, the charge comes in around 6 quid. Based on googles advice that a full bath is about 100 litres, and a 1000 litres is a 2 pound charge, although I do think googles estimate of a 100 litres for a full bath, is wrong.

Anyone considering getting a water meter - they let you move back to rates after you've had the meter for 12 months. You can then work out which is more economical. After 12 months, you can never go back to rates.
You can go back to bills after two years of having a water meter, if you wanted to. That’s what Dwr Cymru say anyway.

It was 12 months when I first moved to a meter 20 years ago, must have changed to 2 years since then. I've been on a meter for 3 different houses. Much cheaper, even when we had 6 in the house for a few years.

I must say the little questionnaire they have on the Welsh Water website is a bit concerning, once you put how many in the house, it then asks do you use a washing machine, power shower, dishwasher, garden sprinkler or hosepipe, if I put yes, the estimate comes back to what roughly currently paying now, but it halves if I say no. Hmm

Water is £1.35 per cubic meter, sewerage charge £2.00 per cubic meter on top of the £1.35, but discounted by 5% as it’s assumed that you drink some water. Standing charges are 40p per day.

Been trying to convince my wife to consider one, there's only 2 of us in the house now. Just had ours through, it's ÂŁ110 per month.
At our place it’s me, wifey and 2 x 20 year old kids who shower twice a day much to my frustration and annoyance, but there’s not a lot I can do when I’m out and about!!

Over the last few years my water bill has averaged around £450 to £500 per year. Unless you live in the bath, shelling out £110 per month is bonkers when there are only 2 of you. My Mrs used to love a bath and would fill it to the brim with hot water, then she’d jump in for a 2 minute soak before bailing out - it used to drive me mad. Lots of hot water and money down the drain. Now it’s purely showers and our bills are lower. If the kids and their own places it would be even cheaper.

I've just answered the two questions, it reckons I can save around 20 odd quid a month. I was expecting it to go into a little more detail, I'm none the wiser, albeit it reckons I could save money based on little or no facts.🤷‍♂️

It's quite strange really as she is very careful when it comes to spending money. Has always been a saver and has got birthday money off her parents in envelopes from 10 years plus ago. Never pays full price for her clothes and if we go to the theatre will buy her pop in Tesco as she won't pay extortionate theatre prices, and yet for some reason she won't have a water meter.

This is pretty good, it's a bit more detailed, for estimating usage.

Yes, it's not very good. I don't think it really reflects the potential savings a customer could make.

Disregarding hosepipes and garden sprinklers, it more or less says that you will not save a lot by changing to a water meter, yet from what people have said on here, that is not the case.

Although I guess the no brainer point in regards to actually making a switch to a meter, is that if it doesn't suit ones needs, you can just revert back to the no meter water supply, and just pay the rate.

That’s the independent one which I used, and is pretty much the same result as I got from the one on Dwr Cymru - 50% saving. I missed a call yesterday when at the game for having mine fitted.

Just the two of us, ÂŁ24 a month and i am quite a few pounds in credit too, but i have also installed water butts all over the garden as the Mrs has the hose on permanently in the garden.

I am on a meter and as other have said you notice the difference every time the kids leave or come back!
