Briton Ferry Bridge

Recently I tried to cycle back to Swansea from Aberavon Beach without using Briton Ferry Bridge.

Gave up eventually.

When I was kid, living in Baglan, a trip to Swansea was an all day affair, Number 42 bus , Neath , Skewen, Morriston, I am sure it would have taken 1 1/2 hours in those days.

Summer Sundays were a summer walk over the bridge to the Ferry Boat Inn.

Eeee, you youngsters, I don't know! A four/five mile diversion. Up through the Ferry to Neath, over the bridge, head for Skewen then fork left onto Burrows Road, under the M4, through Llandarcy, past the Towers and join back up with Jersey Marine at the Shell Garage.

Risky going through the Ferry on a cycle. They'd have the wheels off your bike before you can say Briton ! :D

Heh. We did a risk assessment at the roundabout on A465 near Tesco. It looked like it would be pretty hairy trying to get across on bikes

It’s ok crossing at Llandarcy roundabout with a bike, but if you come through Neath just ride through Neath Abbey/Skewen onto the cycle path either into Skewen/Birchgrove or down to Jersey Marine as above.

Why didn’t you want to use the B/F bridge there is a very good cycle path on either side very safe and not particularly steep?

I just thought it'd be nice to find an alternative route, particularly as there's such a good towpath at the Briton Ferry end of the canal. :)

The tarmac section along the canal is excellent, i have been told they have had money to extend the tarmac further up the canal beyond Tonna. I never used the Skewen Tennant canal which would also be a good route into Swansea i would imagine.

You’re lucky you don’t have to use the original bridge.

Mind you when the tide was in you could have used the Ferry.
