.....where would you choose to live? Realistic answers only (we all know oldjacks neighbours would love a plot on the moon)

Portugal would do me. Was planning to anyway but my wife's poor health seems to have scuppered that plan. Just a 2 1/2 hour flight for our children & grandchildren.

I'd have a place in London for convenient access to events up there and Heathrow/Gatwick. Otherwise I'd want to see as many places as possible so would spend the cash on travel instead.

Swansea as a home base.

I’ve always had a desire to live somewhere with four distinct seasons; I like the heat of summer but am also equally happy in cold and snow. Michigan fits the bill perfectly in this respect and I’m a little bit disappointed that I didn’t take up the opportunity for a work transfer out there. Probably too late to do it now.

Failing that then Dr. W has the right idea.

Snap Mr C! Almost moved there myself (Milwaukee, Madison etc.) - spent several days viewing property etc. - you got a lot for your $$ back in the day! The opportunity (it was one of a string really) fell through around the time of the credit crunch, an that was that. Almost took work opportunities up in Atlanta too, but the idea of the 4 distinct seasons was a big plus for Wisconsin.

So, Dickie, possibly that area, but I couldn't be happier here in God's own, love the place.

I have always liked the changing seasons, but as time has gone on it’s got to the stage that I really dislike the winter weather and the long drawn out nights. The one thing that puts me off a move are Saturday afternoons particularly the sport.

As Dr W has said, I’d have a place in London, I’d travel and my base would be a small village near the seaside somewhere in a Wales Wales with a pub.

Thanks guys. It's a long term problem she's had for the last 10 years and it's unlikely to change now and we just work around it. She's no incapacitated so it doesn't really stop her from doing most of what she wants and she'd be quite able to move abroad but she'd be too concerned about health care which is fair enough. For better, for worse, in sickness and in health. ;)

Wouldn’t move far from where I now live, would buy a house with a bit more privacy and grounds, buy a new Land Rover, pay off our daughter’s mortgage and set up a trust fund for our Grandson, that should just about do it.

Swansea boy, me, would love to live down Swansea West, Langland or as close to.
Would spend the rest on what little family we have left, and chill out. 👍

Ah...the Tuscan hills, with a retreat in Caswell.

Buy the 5 litre V8 for a last petrol hoorah, as they will not exist soon. Spend 25k on a decent hifi and settle down with as much chianti as I could tolerate.

Maybe let Mrs M buy some new carpets.

Apart from the Tuscan hills, I intend to do all of that in the next couple of years if I'm lucky enough to be still alive. If I'm a gonner, I fear it'll just be all carpets.
