Just what is the point of these?

Opposition ask questions, PM never answers the questions put to him, instead waffles on about we are world leaders in (insert any old shit) which inevitably turns out to be incorrect. He is never forced to answer the question put to him. A load of shouting and waving of hands.

What is actually achieved here? It is just complete and utter pantomime. Surely they all could be doing something constructive?

Outdated nonsense, but am happy to be educated on it.

It is an outdated joke, as is the whole British political miasma, with its undemocratic FPTP election system, an unelected house of lords containing government cronies and even a Russian oligarch, a lack of a written constitution and rampant corruption. And the British people by and large either don't give a sh*t or feel powerless to change it.

When you have a PM that either lies or refuses to answer questions, the only point can be to publicly chuck mud at the bag full of shit and humiliate him, as there is no other means. Starmer has not exploited any opportunity to do so very effectively, but with most media being tory stooges, it's difficult to get traction.

So yeah, pointless.

It reminds me of Blind Date.

Stupid questions prepared in advance and then answered by the buffoon.

Apologies to all you PS folk who went on Blind Date

What I find quite amazing (albeit entertaining) is that in this day and age, the conduct in the House of Lords is acceptable.

Imagine someone in a normal line of work (giving a talk during a meeting, giving a presentation to 100 work colleagues) being shouted at and having gestures made at them while they were talking. It's quite odd really.

I'd never thought of it like that but you're absolutely right, it is rather bizarre. I've never seen it any other way so take it for granted :D

As i said in my OP, it's just pantomime, serves no purpose from what i can see.

PMQs has always been a bit of a panto but it did used to at least partly serve the purpose it’s designed for, the one opportunity of the week (used to be two 15 minute sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays many moons ago) for the House to question the person in charge and hold them to account. That started to change when television cameras first started pointing at Parliament and these days it’s an entirely pointless exercise. Johnson shows no interest in the questions he’s asked and utter contempt for Parliament and the rule of law. He’s never prepared and never reads his briefing. I’ve spent a lot of time in Parliament over the years watching often long debates on issues and minutiae that hardly come to the attention of anyone but that doesn’t make them less important. The real work of parliament is done in the committees that scrutinise and debate the detail of legislation for hours in end, line by line, clause by clause and often word by word. Having seen that stuff going on at length I’ve developed a mostly healthy respect for some politicians, mainly the career backbenchers who will never be ministers but take their responsibility for scrutinising legislation and holding the government to account very seriously. But also some ministers, although far less so with them these days. Most of them are self obsessed, vacuous cunts. It’s a tragedy in some ways that all most people see of Parliament in action is this entirely pointless one a week soundbite fuckfest.

Show PMQs to anyone not born here and their reaction is priceless, for better or worse.

Maybe we take it for granted
