Wigan Reflection

There were some obvious problems with the balance of the team when Nicholls was sent off, I know we know lack the tall centre forward target man, but the amount of space on the wings was horrendous, there was so much room a donkey could have put a decent cross in. But no we still had to try unsuccessfully feed the ball through the middle. The one dimensional style of play, I’ll admit was an improvement on the style of play from last year with the constant hoofing from Bound and Smith, but the skill level involved to play the passing style of football is not there. The other grumble (Oh no the internet fans are moaning again ;o) )is again the lack of striking talent, Cusack is not a Striker he dosen’t have the pace, he can’t head the ball but his shooting is OK. He needs to be back in midfield where he can control the play, we missed him there. Mutton on the other hand was a refreshing site, when he came on as a sub he ran everyhting down, we didn’t see his finishing as he didn’t get a chance to shoot. But he’d at least improved his standings with the crowd, who were very wary of him. All in all, it was a decent result in silly season, we’ll wait to find out if the flaws shown today will continue for the rest of the season
