Swans 0 Swindon 0

I’ll be honest I feel so depressed about last night’s result that I can’t be arsed to write on! But I must.

There were few highlights in what overall proved a very boring match and a waste of ร‚ยฃ10 and an 80 mile round trip! The rain and windy conditions did little to help this game, the suprising thing was the change in direction of the wind @ HT which gave Swindon the advantage for both halves.

Hollins started the fixture with the winning line-up from Saturday, suprisingly leaving out returnรƒยฉ captain Cusack, but he won a place on the bench.

The game started well with plenty of pressure from the Swans, the Romo – Roberts combination was proving dividends with David putting through some great balls for Stu to chase, but the Swindon Full-Back Davis proved a tenacious charachter and if he couldn’t stop Roberts he’d foul him and often got away with it. As this proved to be our only channel of attack due to his donkeyness on the left having another mare, soon Swindon easily stopped the majority of our attacks before they got too dangerous.

Again as Saturday we seemed most dangerous from set-pieces, Romo’s ability at crossing will prove dividends as the season progresses. Once the team has had the ability to do some proper training with the new signings.

The one scary moment in the first half was when Pricey knocked the ball into our own net from a Swindon corner. I must admit I was unsure as to why it was disallowed, but a Goal Kick resulted so I can only speculate that the corner didn’t stay in play.

On 38 mins a great cross from Romo was headed goalward by Watkin but the keeper did well to tip the shot over the bar.

HT

This is were it really got depressing!

The second half started really slowly after another Hollins backs against the walls speechs put the team to sleep again! However on 55 mins a swirling cross from Pricey was well glanced goalward by Roberts, only to go straight into the hands of the keeper.

Roger who had very little keeping to do, apart from hacking the ball into touch as he inevitably does, really made a pigs ear of a simple high floating cross, missing the ball not just once, twice but three blomming times, fortunately due to the poor cross the Swindon Attack gave up chasin it!

The game sent me to sleep then as little or no chances were created. Hollins tried a swap around as Savarese seemed to pickup a back injury and brought on Cusack upfront. But little changed, Romo ever present in the 1st half, now appeared to ahve disappeared, apart from hacking every corner we won into the Swindon’s 1st man of defence.

We tried to grab the game in the dying moments, with some last minute pressure, but the chances weren’t there.

Summary

On relection tonight’s result wasn’t too bad. Swindon are a team higher than their league position suggested, arguably better than Stoke. We lost the plot however and a few changes are required for the trip to Wrexham.

Coates needs a spell in the wilderness as his confidence is rock bottom, a possible switch with either his natural replacement Casey or bolstering the midfield with Thomas and only playing with one out and out winger.

Also Jenkins looked lost today, Cusack or Thomas will probably come in to replace next Saturday.

MoM – David Romo – Strictly on his 1st half, as it was the only highlight of a poor match.
