Supporter’s Trust Launch

Swansea City Supporter’s Trust is up and running after the launch meeting at the Patti Pavilion in Swansea.
Around 300 people made their way down to the meeting, the large majority still talking about how we managed to throw away a two goal advantage against Cheltenham.
From a point of view of someone that has not been involved in the steering party, I was amazed at how many people were actually involved behind the scenes and how many faces that I certainly did not recognise. A ‘well done’ must to to all that worked behind the scenes to get this going and now it is the responsibility of the fans to help them in taking it forward.
The evening kicked off with a ‘nervous’ John Parkhouse – ‘Sparky’ (bad case of the shakes John? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) thanking all the people that had helped and donated items to the trust and some spirited messages of encouragement for all to get involved.
Kevin Johns, the compere for the evening then took over before handing the microphone to Trevor Watkins from Supporters Direct who explained the concept of a trust and how it should work.
After a short interval it was then time for people to dig deep in their pockets with the auction items which in total raised around ร‚ยฃ2000 for the trust. Top prices on the night were he ร‚ยฃ600 paid for the signed David Beckham shirt and a signed Swans First Division shirt which raised over ร‚ยฃ400. It was also commendable that two people in the audience donated extra items on the evening – a young 12-year old lad donated John Hollins boots which he had got at Scunthorpe – these raised over ร‚ยฃ50 and someone else donated a Martin Thomas Nationwide League top from last season which fetched close on ร‚ยฃ100.
With a raffle running through the evening and the announcement that over 100 people had joined the trust on the night, I am sure that the steering group will class this as a massive success and a boost that they can take the trust forward with an AGM now needing to take place within 3 months.
Once again, I would have to say well done to all involved in setting up the steering group and getting the trust to this stage – the ball is well and truly rolling tonight and it is safe to say that the ‘internet nerd’ tag should have been dispelled by now.
