Petty: I’m Staying

So, Tony Petty denies that he is thinking of walking out on Swansea and declares his intentions to stay. As usual, “These rumours do more good than harm” How does he work that one out then?

Having been out of the country for a week, it makes a change to come back and see what has been written on the site about the club. I was tipped off on this one by a text message and it made the San Miguel taste a little sweeter than normal.

Then I pick up the Evening Post and, surprise, surprise, Tony Petty is declaring that he is staying. Well, he is never going to admit in public that he is ready to walk away now is he? But I know who provided the fuel for this story and it has come from good sources.

There is no money coming into Swansea City at this moment in time. We have just two home games in the month of December and we are led to believe that the bank accounts do not have at the moment the money to cover the players wages. Will they get paid at Christmas this year, only time will tell but I am doubtful at the moment.

Petty’s statement on the official site reads ” These stories are absolute rubbish. I arrived at Swansea with a job to do, and I intend to complete it. ” I never said it would be easy, and that is proving the case. But, I am confident that we will turn the Club around. ” These type of rumours do nothing but harm, and it creates uncertainty for staff at the Club, who are trying to get on with their jobs, only to be surrounded by speculation. ” I may be in Australia for the next few weeks, but I will be working hard to secure the future of the Club, and I intend to return to Swansea shortly after Christmas.”

I love the line about these type of rumours do nothing but harm – it makes me laugh. Of course, sacking players, selling the best assets and appointing stadium managers to the board are beneficial for the club then Tony are they?

We also hear from Australia that there is a split in the Brisbane Lions camp with regard the Swans meaning that the chance of him getting the investment from there that he promised is not looking good at the moment.

You just get the feeling that all these things are coming together to number Mr Petty’s days at Swansea City and with Christmas just around the corner, we can only hope for the present that most of us wanted from Santa
