At the forefront of the queue appears to be Mel Griffin and his consortium. Mel seems keen enough to buy the club but many fans are questioning what he wants. Is that the fact that he is a property developer that is worrying them? The council keeps re-iterating that there is nothing in the Vetch Field for Mr Griffin but we wait and see what his plans are fully as and when he takes charge.
As we know, I have spoken to Mel Griffin and I have passed on my own thoughts on what he needs to do if he takes charge to appease the fans and take the club forward. I spoke to Radio Wales this morning and re-iterated the same thing live on air. One of the key things for me is that the club must be rid of every association with Tony Petty, be it material or human element. This much is vital.
But of course, Mr Griffin may not be alone in his interest. Mel Nurse still has his consortium together we believe although the likelihood of Petty selling to them is remote. But they are there and they cannot be discounted should anything go awry elsewhere. This is of course, the people’s choice.
And then there are two Palestinians. They still seem to be hovering in the background and we hear that these people may have some serious financial backing. Of course, it goes without saying that they too would have to rid the club of the Petty smell if they are to succeed. Little has been said about these people – do people trust them or not.
There is of course, the chance of an eleventh hour person. Perhaps the two names of Griffin and the Palestinians have been banded about to hide someone else but I find it unlikely that anyone could have been in negotiation without one of Petty or Lewis mentioning it so we say we have the three candidates but the way this story has run so far, nothing would surprise me any more.
Griffin certainly looks the favourite and story has it that he has been with Petty in London today. Everyone seems to be expecting the announcement tomorrow, so let’s get some sleep and see what tomorrow brings to Swansea City Football Club.
All we can hope is that whatever it does bring, the football club is the only winner.
