Home >Story Index> Nurse Denied Entry To Board Room

Anyone remember the programme ‘That’s Life’? The one with Esther Rantzen and her amazing talking teeth? Well, they used to have an award on their programme each week for Jobsworth of the week. Well, we have a candidate and he works for Swansea City.
Last Friday at the Southend game, Mel Nurse was sitting in his usual seat in the centre stand he doesn’t like sitting in the director’s box. At half-time he left this seat and headed towards the board room.
When he got there he was greeted by a Steward on the door who would not let him in as he had no pass for the board room. Mel’s somewhat understandable reply was “Do you know who I am”?, and I would imagine that 99% of the staff at the club have a reasonable idea who he is.
The steward though was clearly not sure as he replied “I don’t care who you are you can’t come in without a pass” Not a word for word quote but I am sure that at this point you are getting the general idea. Mel again expressed to the steward that had he read the paper in the last few weeks he would know who he was but the steward remained unconvinced and refused entry to the board room.
Mel was left with no option but to return to his normal seat, understandably upset at the way he had been treated. Rumour has it that the steward may be the same one who protected a certain Mr Petty at the Rushden game?
It just goes to show. You can save a football club but that clearly means nothing to some people. Maybe now we have a better idea of why the attendances haven’t picked up that much since the takeover.
