Home >Story Index> Addison To Stay At Swansea? |
As we know, the transfer embargo has been the subject of speculation at the Vetch in recent weeks and questions have been asked in some corners as to why the embargo has not been lifted. The definitive answer from ‘inside the Vetch’ is that there is no point in lifting the embargo with our football league safety assured and the club needing to build itself to a firm financial footing. |
But wait a minute. We hear a whisper that the embargo may have been lifted with a payment that was due from the football league last Thursday. For what we are not sure. However, we understand that the payment from the league was made and that, as we owe money to the PFA for wages and of course the pension fund that the final payment has been made and the club may well be able to deal in the transfer market again. Maybe the perfect opportunity to look to Selhurst Park and the possibility of bringing Steven Evans back to the Vetch on a permanent move? |
The second thing we are hearing concerns the management. Colin Addison and Peter Nicholas. We know that their positions have been under discussion and we hear a whisper that a contract has been offered. But before we go any further we only hear that a contract has been offered to Colin Addison with nothing on the table at the moment for Peter Nicholas. The rumour is that Addison has been offered a one-year extension to his existing deal which runs out in August this year. |
But why one and not the other? Peter Nicholas we understand may have struck some sort of deal with Llanelli which could see us take two players from Stebonheath on loan for the rest of the season (no names) If this turns to be true then we understand that the committee are none to happy about it and that may be the reason for the rumoured no contract to Nicholas at present. |
Of course, this will only increase speculation about John Cornforth who was in the stands against Hull on Friday night. Many are advocating the appointment of Cornforth (including me) somewhere within the coaching staff and there is a degree of logic if there are plans to do this as an assistant for a year to Addison, giving us a period of continuity. But again, we only speculate for now. |
Finally, and most disturbing. As you will all know, we have friends within the committee and we respect the work that they have done in getting the club to where we are now. We are told that they are looking for new investors and that these will be needed to take the club forward. However, the rumours reach us that maybe there is some infighting amongst the consortium and that the current team would like to hold onto the power at the club. We hope and pray that this rumour is not true and even if there is a degree of truth in it then we urge them to do the best for Swansea City and for the time being we will trust their judgement as fans. As we know, Martin Burgess has left the club (again rumours on this front which we leave unprinted for now) and we are in desperate need of a figure head to lead the club as we look to build on what we have and that is, in my opinion, the best for Swansea City. Not infighting or power building, we had enough of that under the previous regimes and I hope that the consortium/committee know better. I believe they probably do. |
So that is what we hear on the rumour mill from the Vetch. In summary, the lifting of the transfer embargo, Addison possibly offered a new contract, Nicholas and Llanelli and possible infighting. Believe what you choose to believe but we feel that, as fans, everyone has a right to know about what we hear from our friends. |
