I know the FAW Cup competition hasn’t captured the minds of many in recent times but at last we get the chance to give Wales an end of season show piece.
Whenever we do get to play Cardiff City I am sure Mr Hammam and all at Cardiff City will want a hassle free fixture, as much as we do. And with a fairly low turn out that is probably going to be the way it pans out. That is as long as we don’t get any further misinformation in the press and stupid headlines as the game draws near. In fact it’s a great opportunity for Wales sports writers to do all the bridge building they can and promote this as one hell of an opportunity for both clubs and fans to mend the pretty bad ways of the past. Okay, both sets of fans are not the closest and never will be, but like many football fans I know, a lot of proper Swansea City fans have been friendly with proper Cardiff City fans for years. No malice at all, just the usual digs when we get a result against each other. You know ringing them up at 3 am and shouting 1-0 LIVE ON SKY ! etc ….. Just a laugh.
We have indeed read many negative things in the press of late, and this has unfortunately spilled over on various newsgroups to the detriment of all involved. Including the press. I still feel an antagonistic approach to Swansea in the daily press, and various stories of late do nothing to convince the Swansea City Management Committee that certain people want what is best for Swansea City AFC.
And so, if there is a problem maybe it’s best to confront it, and either solve it or ignore it ? I am told that a certain journalist has annoyed players at The Vetch Field of late and he has also printed stories invarious newspapers regards the Addison and Nicholas situation. And many at Swansea are not entirely happy with him, including, if my information is right turning up at Swansea games with a Cardiff City tie on. Now, I do not have a problem with that. That is of course until I think of the reaction if I was to do thesame when reporting for a magazine article on Cardiff City. You see, sometimes scruples are needed.
But we are dealing with professional people I hope, and maybe the whole thing can be worked out, and maybe from now on in – not on here. It’s pointless. We should not be doing anyone’s dirty work on here, or even falling for it. All I ask for is a bit of common sense. From both sides, and if the fact one supports a different team from the other and this stands in the way – maybe they are not as intelligent as they would like people to think.
On the point of the Swansea City v Cardiff City game. As soon as the venue is sorted there should be quite alot of checking through old news stories if it’s at Ninian Park. Correct me if I am wrong but did Sam Hammam not say he would pay for every Swans fan to go to Ninian Park ? And if this is so may I ask that he contact me as and when he deems necessary to fund the 54 seater we will be running from Gloucester and Bristol. Well, after all a promise is a promise Sam ! And each and everyone of them will be a genuine Swans fan. I think that’s why I really still enjoy football as much as ever. There is a lot of banter about still, and I suppose people like Sam Hammam are the characters we need in football. And at times he will get it wrong, but if we were all perfectly honest we would love a character like him at Swansea City too. Well, I’ll be honest for a start off. I think a cheque for three hundred and fifty notes should cover it Mr Hammam.
So from Saturday can I put David Morgan forward as the man to stand behind the goal and conduct The Swansea North Bank ? Or maybe just form his own character, and take it a step further, of course taking in mind that the FAW will take a few months to work out the fine, but by then we can just offer them 5 % of whatever it is, and eventually pay them what Mike Lewis is worth. Which I believe is about 5p !
And finally on the subject of Saturday. Luton Town are an arrogant bunch, and referred to Swansea City as the worst team in the league after our last meeting. No malice you Hatters, but maybe you too could do with a course in public relations ? Your manager especially after his responses to Oxford United fans when booed a few months back. But maybe he has got it right, remain arrogant, horrible, and unapproachable – And you will get promoted. Erm …..
And of course as in our case, come straight back down the next season.
No, I prefer the current regime, and if it means the team are run by one Nick Cusack and Roger Freestone next season. Then that’s good enough for me. So bye MR Flynn of Port Talbot, and sorry but this is a young mans game, and you need a few more rounds of golf.
It’s time to look ahead not backwards, and that goes for everyone.
