Sam’s mission that night was to convince us all that we had to follow his Cardiff City dream, of course he failed. Miserably. At the time, he was under the belief that Cardiff represented the whole of the Welsh nation and he was quickly put right on that front by saying that any self respecting Jack would not consider watching Cardiff just because Swansea were away. But he wanted to build bridges.
And he made an offer to build these bridges that I haven’t forgotten and one that over the next few weeks could come back to haunt him. "Next time Cardiff play Swansea at Ninian I will pay for your fans you will all be my invited guests at Ninian Park to watch the game"
But of course, he probably never believed it would happen seeing as his side were bigger than Barcelona and Leeds and that they were destined for bigger things (just below the play-offs in Division 2!) but now that promise could turn into reality for Mr Hammam.
Of course there still has to be the toss of a coin to decide the venue. When this toin coss takes place and where is anyone’s guess at the moment but rumourd that BBC Wales were devoting a 15-minute FAW special to the event is nothing more than a rumour!!!! But if the coin toss takes place and the venue is Ninian then it is time to call in this favour.
But Why? Well, Sam Hammam tells us that the welsh football fans unite and he wants the best for Welsh football so we should call it in. I don’t particularly want any more of his money than any other Jack but Cardiff fans tell us how wonderful he is etc etc and he made a promise and we should make him stick to it. Get your cheque book ready Sam you could be needing it.
Of course we wait now for the coin toss before making more of the right noises but could you imagine 500-1000 Jacks heading up the M4 and watching the game at Ninian all courtsey of Mr Sam Hammam? Sounds good to me.
Oh and Sam, you may be interested to know that we also have fans as far away as Denmark, Russia, Australia and the Bahamas not forgetting the vast MAGS membership based throughout England and Wales.
