The date for the final has been provisionally booked for April 30 but with Cardiff at the moment sitting in a play-off position they could be faced with a play off fixture the day after. The other two dates suggested by the Bluebirds, both in May have been rejected by Swansea as they come several weeks after their season has ended.
However, the FAW need a date set and in the interests, for once of being fair, have told Cardiff owner Sam Hamman that he must get it sorted and his team will play this game by the end of this month even if they have to put out a youth team.
Welsh FA spokesman, Phil Terrifiast said “To look to play this game so far after the end of the Nationwide league season is just ludicrous. The season is due to finish to April 20 and with a World Cup starting at the end of May we need to get this competition out of the way as soon as possible.
“We have an obligation to the BBC to screen the match live and schedules are tight already in May and we have the date of April 30 clear for television coverage. Cardiff City may or may not be in the play-offs and we realise that this is of more importance to them but this is our Premier cup competition and we are not going to belittle it because of one of the entrants.
“We have faxed a letter to Cardiff City and asked them to agree a date with Swansea and the fax states that the game must be played by April 30 at the very latest. If a date cannot be agreed between the two sides then we have the power to expel if we feel necessary.”
It therefore seems that Swansea City could win the FAW Premier Cup by default unless the two sides can agree a date for the competition although Mr Terrifiast did hint at possible extinction meaning a reprive for Wrexham who were beaten by Cardiff in the semi-finals.
We await further developments……..
