The board will comprise of six people. David Morgan, at present sole director will continue on the board and will be joined by Brian Katzen, Mel Nurse, Huw Jenkins, Leigh Dineen and one more person. The announcement from the club is expected next Tuesday or Wednesday.
It has been over two months since the consortium gained control of the club from Tony Petty and in that time David Morgan has remained the only director of the football club. We have proceeded forward with no chairman and no-one else on the board but this should now be rectified by the six-man make up.
We are working on the assumption that Mel Nurse will be chairman although that is unconfirmed at the moment as is the name of the sixth person who will sit on the board of the football club. And of course for the first time we will have a representative of the fans on the board in Leigh Dineen, who will take his seat in his capacity as chairman of the Supporter’s Trust. This gives the fans an opportunity to have their voice raised at meetings and it will be essential that questions can be asked of the board of the club by members of the trust. After all, that is what the fan representation is there for?
We can hope that this board of directors will be the one that will take the club forward gradually. Talk of promotion next season may prove to be optimistic in the corners it is coming from – maybe the best scenario is learning to walk before you can run? The club was on the brink of disaster a few weeks back and the board will need to be prudent to ensure that we do not get in that situation again.
And of course, one of the first decisions of the new board will be the management position that remains vacant at the Vetch. A position that is currently filled by Nick Cusack and Roger Freestone on a caretaker basis. The majority of the board make up at the moment we believe want to make this position permanent although we understand that at least one member of the board is looking to a different name to fill the void that stands. Well, one of two names as it stands – Brian Flynn being one and the name Bobby Gould was mentioned by one. Brian Flynn I could just about stomach, Bobby Gould would get a big thumbs down from me thanks very much.
But the decision on the new manager must wait for now and in a week or so we will have a board again at Swansea City – we await the official announcement from the club.
