Deano’s The Man

OK, you can take some arguments that Dean is untested, maybe doesn’t have the contacts of some and may even prove to be expensive but we can counter these. Why does the manager have to be tested? Dean has played at some of the bigger clubs in Europe (Liverpool, Galatasary) and proved himself there. Toshack was untested when he got here and we all know what happened from there. Dean’s a local lad and he will understand what this club means to the fans.
Contacts. Maybe he hasn’t got that many contacts in the lower division of football but I remember reading something that he is a popular man amongst his professionals. On that basis would he be able to get people nearing the end of their careers to the Vetch on affordable money? Quite possibly. Also, if Cusack was to be his assistant the simple answer is that you don’t get to be chairman of the PFA without contacts in the game so he must have friends that he could sell Swansea City too.
Money. Well, to start with Deano is rumoured to have offered to come here for ร‚ยฃ50k per year. Less than ร‚ยฃ1000 per week. Dean Saunders is a name that is talked about in the Swansea support. Would he put enough on the gate to cover these wages – at the very least he would cover them, I believe that he would put enough on the gate to more than cover them. After all, ร‚ยฃ50k per week is only another 218 people through the gate each game. We would get that easily, more if he still donned a shirt and played now and again.
I think that’s them three arguments covered adequately now. It also gives the consortium room to appoint Cusack as seems to be their wish and we have two well respected former footballers at the helm of things. Not forgetting Roger who could easily be appointed to some form of coaching role at the club as a reward for his loyalty although, knowing Roger personally, he would probably just accept a contract to see out his playing days at the Vetch for now.
I think that Dean Saunders is the man for the job and I think we should be giving him a chance to take Swansea forward. But then again, I’m only a fan!
