Cusack Takes Charge

Player-Coach is a title, we are led to believe, in name only. Cusack is the manager to all intents and purposes – the reason for the title player-coach means that he can retain his PFA chairmanship whilst he is carrying out the role within the club.
This appointment brings to an end a week which saw Brian Flynn ready to be appointed and then a U-Turn and then further speculation about who would get the manager’s role at the club. What we are unsure at the moment is to the role of Roger Freestone in the new set-up although we do understand that he will continue in his role of assistant at tomorrow’s game.
What we don’t know as yet is whether there will be a further appointment from outside the club as assistant to Cusack or maybe even the possibility of a director of football to look after the contract negotiations and the other administration duties that tend to be associated with the manager.
Whatever the feelings over this appointment, I firmly believe that we have to back Nick Cusack and whoever into next season. The least that he deserves is a crack and we await to see what develops over the close season.
We have heard a whisper that Brian Flynn was given a budget of ร‚ยฃ1m for player contracts although you have to remember that this will include the likes of signing on fees for new players or those having contracts renewed. Nick Cusack will be aware that there will be the likely need for changes, maybe even mass changes, over the course of the summer and we will watch and see what happens.
But for now, in my opinion we owe him some support and let’s try and put this horrible season behind us. Nick Cusack’s Barmy Army.
