Home >Story Index> Fancy a bet?

When most people think of betting on sport, they normally think of smoky, noisy bookmaker’s shops. The reality is somewhat different, placing a bet these days is a much more pleasurable experience than it used to be with bright, clean surroundings and lots of helpful staff to advise you on how to place your bets. You don’t even have to leave the comfort of your living room to place a bet anymore with countless on-line betting sites available. So what better time than to take a look at the money you could win (or lose!!!) by betting on the boys in black and white.

After last seasons poor finish it’s not surprising that most bookmakers have already written off our promotion chances for next season. But with Nick Cusacks team building already underway (today’s signing of Bury midfielder Paul Reid being an example) the odds available are quite interesting.

After taking a look at various websites the worst odds I found for the Swans winning the championship were 25/1 with Surrey Sports, most bookies tend to hover around this mark but I also found us at a very tempting 33/1 with Paddy Power. Those odds have got to be worth a pound of anyone’s money!!!

As with most things, it pays to shop around and I’m sure you’ll find favourable odds not only for the championship, but for automatic promotion or even a play-off place. You’ll also find a lot of sites offering free first time bets for new online punters so why not get your browsers fired up and see what odds you can find.

If you fancy making things a little more interesting you can always chance your arm at predicting the winners of all 4 divisions, the odds that you are offered on such a bet can quite often be too good to resist. It’s a bet I always place and it certainly adds a little bit of excitement to the last few weeks of the season. My selections for the coming season areรขโ‚ฌยฆรขโ‚ฌยฆPremiership – Liverpool, Division 1 – Ipswich, Division 2 – Barnsley and Division 3 – Swansea (forever the optimist as you see, probably why I’ve never made any money on this type of bet!!!)

So why not give it a go? It’s just a bit of fun after all. But remember, if you’re in the money next May, you owe me a pint!!!
