As expected, the Evening Post carried tonight Councillor Bailey’s denial of the reduction in the Morfa Stadium capacity which is fair enough as it makes news but then the Evening Post have to make comment. This is what they had to say: –
"Swansea Council would be unwise to devote too much time to defending the Morfa Stadium project against Internet Rumours.
Many of the soccer website chat rooms are great fun but some contributors do not so much make two and two into five, as six or seven.
While consultants might have suggested a 15,000 seater-stadium, the rugby club most certainly would not accept that and neither would the council.
And whilst the issue of proposed anchor tenants Morrisons not having yet signed up is a worry, that is for the developers to sort out, not the council"
Well if the Evening Post can make a comment then I am going to as well. May not be as well thought out but all I have to say is BOLLOCKS!
First off the rumours were posted on a Message Board and not a chat room. The EP needs to learn the fundamental difference between them before they make comment as to the people that use them. And they also need to talk to the likes of the current Swansea board and recent owners as to who did the most to damage them in Swansea – the internet and sites like this one or the Evening Post. You can guarantee that the names of Gareth Vincent will not send shivers down their spine but those of Gary Martin, Phil Sumbler, Keith Haynes, Nick Rees etc will. Hmmm, nasty internet whinging fans got rid of people bad for the club whilst the EP did their best to print hard luck stories about how Petty and Lewis were being picked on.
But of course, the EP have also shown their contempt for Swansea City. "The rugby club will not accept a 15,000 capacity and neither will the council" By that they seem to be implying that the football club will?
Sorry but the EP has insulted the intelligence of anyone that uses the internet here because they have grouped everyone together and tomorrow morning I will head to my local newsagents and cancel my subscription to the rag. Enough is enough, they do sod all, lift most of their stories off the web-sites (official and unofficial) and then claim exclusives over most of it. Well this time they can sod off. Remember, it was the same web-sites that took the fight on against Petty and Lewis – where were they when they were needed?
But of course we can do more. George Edwards has a contact number in the paper of 01792 514604. And of course there is there letters page which you can e-mail by clicking here or by writing (snail mail) to Postbox, Evening Post, Adelaide Street, Swansea, SA1 1QT.
Yet another newspaper that gives not one toss about their football club or their supporters. Weakest Link and goodbye? I think so.
