Twelve Months Ago….

I remember this day last year very clearly. I was sat in the same seat that I am sat in now typing away at my PC when I had an early morning phone call from Keith Haynes "Hollins is on his way mate" was the words that he used and we sprung into action with the phone calls. The first article was posted on the site that Hollins was likely to be on his way and the celebrations started. By lunchtime, the confirmation was there that he was gone the following day and that the Vetch would be ‘graced’ by the presence of Peter Nicholas (we almost got it fully right!)
The day seemed one to celebrate, certainly in front of my PC. I had waited years to hear this news even when the championship season was in full swing I would not have complained if he had gone but then the day turned sour in a big way.
My mobile rung again and a general conversation was made and then a comment in the background was heard "The World Trade Centre is on fire". I thought to myself "that’s bad" but carried on. Until ten minutes later another call confirmed what the real deal was here and that this was no accident but a huge act of terrorism.
I sat for the rest of the afternoon glued to the coverage on CNN, Sky News or whatever as I am sure most of you did to. The day I had waited for for so long was turned sour and Swansea City became a very small part in this life.
Of course at that moment in time, the team were on their way down to Home Park in Plymouth, knowing of the latter news but only having whispers that this would be their last game under John Hollins.
September 11th I will never forget for these two reasons. The world will not forget it for the atrocities in New York but Swansea fans should always remember that twelve months ago we had John Hollins in charge. Whether you think Nick Cusack is the right man or not we have to ask the question "would you prefer Hollins?"
We can only hope that this September 11th is much much quieter this year and that nothing major happens in or out of our football club other than maybe a win over Wolves tonight which would be a very welcome boost both on the pitch and financially.
So as we reach the anniversary the world will not forget we remember that things could be a lot lot worse in the football sense and as we remember those that have gone and will not be forgotten we also remember John Hollins "good riddance!"
